Bragança Castle
Bragança Castle is one of the best-preserved castles in Portugal. Its history dates back to 1187, when the city of Bragança was founded by King Sancho I, to establish royal authority in the northeast of the country. The main fortress was built during the reign of King João I, with an imposing quadrangular tower and walls with circular turrets. The castle consists of 15 towers and 3 gates, including the Princess Tower and the Porta da Vila. Inside the keep is the Military Museum, founded in 1932, which houses a collection of weapons and military equipment dating from the 12th to the 20th century. The castle also offers spectacular views over the city and the surrounding countryside. Bragança Castle is a significant landmark of medieval architecture in Portugal and a window into the country's history.
