The Mills and Meadows Route in The Village of Varge
Explore the Grande Rota dos Moinhos e Lameiros, centered on the village of Varge, a celebration of the mountain fields and old mills on the banks of the Aveleda stream and the River Onor, which are distinctive elements of the landscape and productive activities of the towns of Aveleda, Varge, Rio de Onor and Guadramil, located in the Montesinho Natural Park in the northeast of Portugal.
This route is divided into three stages:
- The first stage starts at the border between Portugal and Spain, in Portelo, and leads to Aveleda;
- The second stage, starting in Aveleda, continues towards Varge and then to Rio de Onor. There is a bypass linking Aveleda to Varge, shortening the distance between the two towns;
- The third stage is a by-pass from Rio de Onor to the village of Guadramil.
On this route, in addition to the mills that once ground grain on the banks of the Aveleda stream and the River Onor (many of which are now museums), the mountain fields that embellish the landscape of the Montesinho Natural Park stand out. Get ready for an unforgettable journey of cultural and natural discovery on the Grande Rota dos Moinhos e Lameiros, with a special focus on the village of Varge.
